Experience
I’ve been practicing in Portland since 1993. All clinical internships and residencies were focused on assessing and treating children, adolescents, and adults with significant psychopathology. My training was broadly based and grounded in neuropsychological assessment, and evidence-based treatment approaches that included behavioral, social learning, cognitive, cognitive-behavioral, as well as family systems, strategic, and solution focused family work. I have consulted at the primary, junior high, high school, and college level.
Current Practice
One portion of my practice is conducting strengths-oriented assessments of students (elementary, high school, college or graduate school) with issues related to school performance, behavioral-emotional issues, and medical regimen adherence (diabetes). I conduct very comprehensive assessments when needed, to figure out what is going on and what to do when a student struggles with school, or complex issues related to diabetes and other chronic illnesses.
I work with students from private and public schools, colleges, and occasionally post-graduate students. I assess learning problems and also assess and treat complex emotional, behavioral, familial, and diabetes related problems. I often prepare documents to get students qualified for extended time on the SAT examinations.
Another important aspect of my practice is strength-oriented treatment and follow-up. I practice within a Motivational Interviewing adherent framework, and have been trained as a Motivational Interviewing Trainer (MINT-TNT).
I am available for treatment or consultation for a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, diabetes discouragement, family conflicts, behavioral issues, and many more. Please call with questions at 503.539.4932 or email at dr.michael.fulop@bdtxpdx.com.
