Often assessments to see if you or a loved one are suffering from depression or anxieties are brief assessments limited in scope, completed to clarify the diagnoses or guide treatment by describing the subtype. We use many validated measures to assess depressive disorders, anxiety subtypes, phobias, and OCD. These assessments do not usually require an extensive report, but when completed by a psychologist, you can be assured that other conditions or complexities were not missed. Often, adult A.D.H.D. assessments include screening measures for depression and anxieties, as many symptoms are overlapping. Assessments for depression, mood, and anxiety help differentiate what is an issue versus a disorder. Or what is primary, or what needs to be addressed first in treatment. It’s a good idea to get a physical exam from your PCP if you think you, or your child, has depression, anxieties, phobias, or OCD, to ensure a physical cause is not causing the mental health symptoms.
